: Where does 'sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you', come from and what does it mean?

I think it means: sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Sometimes you're the pigeon and sometimes you're the statue. The sun don't shine on the same dog's a** every day. Origin, I don't know.
