In Reply to: Cowlick or cowslick posted by Bruce Kahl on November 30, 1999 : : I have hair collocks(spelling?) and someone from the South called it a Cowslick. Is this where the word came from?

Have you never watched a cow and her calf?

Or have you ever seen a salt block licked by cows & steers?

Or, sometime have a look at an area of longish tough grass cows have been eating, frequently twisted and pulled up before bit off for chewing.
