: "Casting shadows in the dark"... anyone know the origin and/or meaning?

I certainly hope someone will come up with the answer. It might explain the wording I heard as a child, in a parody of Dvorak's Impromptu (the popular one). The words started, "Gaily wandering through the park, / Just goosing shadows in the dark, / If Sherman's horse can take it so can you. . . ."
