Under the Coward section in one reference, I found: "God Almighty hates a quitter," said by Gen. Samuel Fessenden, Republican Convention, 1896. The Pocket Book of Quotations, edited by Henry Davidoff, Pocket Books, New York, 1952, Page 45.

And I found "The sea hates a coward!" Eugene O'Neill (1888-1953), Mourning Becomes Electra (1931 pt 2, act 4). "Oxford Dictionary of Quotations," Fifth Edition, edited by Elizabeth Knowles (Oxford University Press, Oxford and New York, 2001). Page 554.
