: My American Yankee father uses the phrase "that's the Spanish news" to mean that something is the cold, hard facts. Any ideas?

I've heard the Mexican weather forecast is "chili today, hot tamale" but I've never heard "Spanish news". How old is your father? It could be a play on the old Saturday Night Live running gag from the mid 1970s where they would announce each week "Generalisimo Francisco Franco is still dead."
