: Could someone please explain what exactly does the phrase "it had me in splits" means?

No doubt you're familiar with gymnastic splits. Well, this surely is not it. I'm guessing that it means "I found it side-splittingly funny," or "it was splitting my sides." That is, it had me holding my sides in laughter.

On the other hand, perhaps not. I've never heard this variation on "side-splitting," if that's what it is. I'm more familiar with "it had me in stitches," which means, I think, I was laughing so hard I got a stitch in my side.
