Fanny Entwhistle

My Nan used to call female friends or people she had heard about "Fanny Entwhistle (Entwistle?)" ...as in "She was acting like Fanny Entwhistle". Or, when talking to my sisters and wanting their attention she would say "Come here Fanny Entwhistle!"

My Nan was born in Suffolk and lived in Norfolk. She was born in 1908.

I have always wondered who Fanny Entwhistle was, if she indeed existed and why her name was always used in a negative way?
