: : 'Lucky John Ogden' - a phrase used often by my father in law from Bolton - anyone familiar with it or know its origin?

: Zero Google hits. When posting please remember that the internet is international - There are 4 Boltons in England, 6 in the United States, 1 in Canada, ...

I knew a 'Lucky John Ogden' - he was a lawyer aged about 80 - firstly, he picked up his new car and reversed it through the show-room window, not having spotted that the gear level (stick shift) was differently configured to his previous car THEN he fell asleep at the wheel and hit the central reservation. despite his age and frailty (he had polio as a youth and walked with sticks), he emerged unscathed.

he was also allowed to come into the office and sit listening to cricket rather than do any work AND had a secretary who thus had about zero work.

thus "John Ogden of Surrey" was IMHO "Lucky John Ogden".
