Some months ago you posted and defined the phrase 'curry favor', rooting the etymology of the Latin word 'favor' to 'fauvel' or 'favvel'. I have been searching the Internet for the root of the word 'favela', which defines a slum or shantytown in various large and mid-sized cities in Brazil. My question is, are the two words related in any way? Did the Brazilians form this description as depicted in your citation of 'Roman de Fauvel'? Or is this just a coincidence?
