Eugene Field, 1850-1895, in his poem Little Boy Blue, uses the phrase 'an angel song' awakened our Little Boy Blue. Exactly what is phrases intention?

It means "a song sung by angels". This is a euphemistic way of saying that the little boy died and went to heaven, which is why his toys are still where he left them many years ago. (VSD)
