Stargate phrases

: : Hi, I would like to know the meaning of some phrases from the tv-series Stargate. The phrases were said from the character Oma Desala:

: : "The river tells no lies, yet standing at its shores the dishonest man still hears them"

: : "If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, the meal was cooked a long time ago."

: : "Lightning flashes, sparks shower, in one blink of your eyes you have mis-seen."

: : "A Tall Man Cannot Hide In The Short Grass."

: They mean "Hi, I am wise being from a culture that lived millions of years ago. You can tell this because I have my own wise-sounding sayings that you've never heard before."

You gotta believe that there are a lot of giggles in the writers' room when they concoct some of these. The "candlelight" one above was probably done after a long lunch....
