Cheap at half the price
This has always baffled me, when someone says this.
Of course it would be, if the person thinks that it is good value at the normal price!!
What am I missing.
Cheers
Richie
You're missing the humor. The original expression was "that would be cheap at twice the price," clearly a bargain. Sarcastically, we say "cheap at half the price" to signify the opposite... like the service department thieves at the car dealer I visited this morning.
