: I overheard someone using this phrase earlier. What's the meaning of this phrase, and where does it originate from?

Does it mean more to you as "for old time's sake"? It should. It means, approximately, in memory of old times, or as a tribute to past times. Usually one can understand it as "for past times together," in which we shared some degree of comradeship or common experience. Its age and origin are unknown to me. SS
