There is an expression about a person having a "skeleton in the closet" which means that person has something negative in his or her past.

That something negative could be anything--a lie, a scandal or maybe a hidden dead body under the floorboards.

I read today that a former NYC mayor has obtained a very good and postive political image here in the US. I can't wait for the skeletons to start popping up.

I think your phrase has some connection to the skeletons in a closet.
