: I am interested in an opinion about the connotation of a phrase "Standing against the wall..." Does this evoke a picture of a person leaning a shoulder against the wall, or positioned with his back against the wall, or is there not enough to differentiate between the two?

If he's at a party or a museum, he's standing close to a wall with his back towards it. If he's not, I don't know. As far as I know, it's not an idiomatic usage. SS
