Brown nosing = "Uncle Tom"

I was sorry to see the description of brown nosing to read that it was rooting in "ass kissing" because I am sure it is more malicious. It is associated with Uncle Tom's Cabin and the sense of being a "N" or an "Uncle Tom"

I don't know. It seems like a stretch. Why are you "sure"? Evidence?
