From the movie "The Phantom of the Opera" what does the quote "Keep your hand at the level of your eye" mean?

It's because the Phantom uses the punjab lasso so keeping your hand up to the level of your eyes means that if someone tries to drop a lasso over your head it should also go over your hand. You can then pull it loose instead of being strangled.
