What kind of phrase is this?

I'm at a loss as to why you find it silly in that it means what it says and says what it means. It's comparable with the phrase 'open the door' which means 'open the door' and should you want someone to open the door you would probably not be misunderstood if you said 'open the door'. Does that help to clarify matters.
