: : : Hi Everyone,

: : : I'm working on a English paper and just need some definitions of the phrase "money makes the world go round" what different interpetations/meanings people have for this particular phrase......any at all. What ever help anyone could give would be really appreciated.

: : LOVE MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND - "The major motivation for all human activity is the search for love. The words are found in an anonymous French song, 'C'est l'amour, l'amour, l'amour, Que fait le monde A la ronde.' First cited in 'David' . Recorded in Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland' ." From Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996). Page 223.

: : A variation is used in a song in the musical Cabaret (movie version,1972):
: : Money makes the world go around
: : The world go around
: : The world go around
: : Money makes the world go around
: : It makes the world go 'round.

: It means, cynically, that the most important thing in this life is money and the search for it. All human activity is, at root, directed by economics.

: Being in love, I am inclined to disgree - but then I don't have to worry about where my next meal is coming from, I have a roof over my head, and I earn slightly more than £1 a month. I am one of the lucky ones in this world.

: DFG

: I am also one of the lucky ones. I have all my basic needs met. I do however, make lots of decisions based on money. How many of us do? If you really want to find out, the next time you go to a restaurant--do you look at the prices before deciding what to order? Do you price the gift before you buy? This is the true meaning of money makes the world go round. We all make decisions based on money. I do find this unfortunate though.
