: : : To give one (or something) the slip.

: : : can anyone help?

: : : Tks!

: : If someone is trailing you or following you or dogging your steps or tailing you or trying to keep you in sight, you give them the slip by dodging out of their sight and disappearing from their view, so that you can no longer be followed. Or I suppose you could be carrying around a slip of paper, or a woman's undergarment, and decided to give it to somebody. SS

: Smokey is being cute up there with "Or I suppose...." To give someone the slip means to SLIP away from a person who's pursuing you.

Ms. Berg is, as always, correct in every particular. SS
