New month

We're having a discussion in the office - Can anyone tell me what the saying "A pinch and a punch, first of the month" means/originates from? Why is it followed by "White rabbits"?

a pinch and a punch for the first of the month
a pinch and a kick for being so quick
a punch in the eye for being so sly

I think this is a child's school yard UKism--Used in Dorset?
Never heard it over here in the US.
