: "Frankenstein and Igor"
: What is the meaning and origin of this phrase?

Igor was an assistant to Dr. Frankenstein in several movies based on the novel, Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus" . Dr. Frankenstein created "Frankenstein's monster."

I googled "Igor" and one site said Shelley's novel doesn't mention an assistant. This site (which has tons of information) has a page about the 1931 movie and mentions "Fritz" the assistant.

Of course, there was "Young Frankenstein" with Marty Feldman as Igor.
