Fine tooth comb

Hi! What does this mean: Going over with a fine tooth comb? Can you please help me find out where it comes from? Thank you, Sax

It refers to the treatment for lice. The adults are killed with a lice shampoo or other solution. But the eggs or nites remain glued to individual shafts of hair. A fine-tooth comb is used to comb them out.
