Creek don't rise

I know I have read somewhere (Reader's Digest, Time, Maxim etc) that the saying actually comes from the Creek Indians. Anyone confirm or categorically deny?

That idea has been categorically denied here before. Entering "creek rise" in the archive-search box on the main Discussion Forum page will get you several previous posts about it.
