Everybody loves a lord

I've another proverb!
I need to know if it is used in the English speaking countries and what is its meaning.

I've never heard that in the UK.

[It is always said that an Englishman loves a lord. It would be more exactly to say that he is in love with lordliness. (_Spectator_, July 3, 1908)]
