Toodle loo

I was browsing an old archive and came across a discussion on the origin of "toodleloo." as an old fashioned expression of parting and I wondered why no one had suggested what seems fairly obvious to me that its origin is from the French expression - a tout a l'heure - which is used exactly, the same way, meaning, "See you presently." Brits never miss an opportunity to mess with French and this would be a prime example - just a thought!
