"Not worth fighting for"

would like your thoughts on what you think the meaning is for...."if it's worth fighting for, it's not worth having."

I have seen this saying as, "if it's NOT worth fighting for, it's not worth having"...

The first version makes no sense. "If it's NOT worth fighting for . . ." must be the correct one.
