: Was wondering if anyone knew the origin of the phrase "pack sand" as in "He made me mad so I told him to go pack sand." We think it maybe something to do with the military, but we are not really sure why it would be a euphamism for "go piss off". Any help insight would greatly be appreciated.
My opinion -- this phrase and "pound sand" are from the "stick it up your a**" genre of insults. See previous discussion at
