Book recommendation for word fans

Posted by Wrod Camel on April 12, 2003

I just found a wonderful book with some delightful obscure English words. It's 'The Word Museum: The Most Remarkable English Words Ever Forgotten' but Jeffery Kacirk.

I love this book. I suppose the thing that sets it apart for me are the wonderful words themselves. They aren't just interesting archaic versions of words we already know, but really colourful words that deserve to be rediscoverd. A few examples are: 'cramble': to walk ill with corns on the feet; to hobble, 'living tally': a man and a woman who live together without being married and 'roozles': wretchedness of mind; the "miserables".

I just can't stop smiling.
