: I am looking for the origin of the phrase "always a bridesmaid never a bride". I believe that I heard the correct answer on the tv show "Who wants to be a millionaire" but I don't remember what it is. I also believe that the phrase originates from a 50's or 60's tv commercial that is probably advertising either a breathmint or some sort of a beauty/healthcare product. Please respond if you have any information.
The commercial was made in the 20s and its either Listerine or Doublemint Gum.
