I heard the phrase "**** eating grin" as a phrase to describe one's smile (I think) and I am not sure exactly what kind of smile that is...what does it mean?

Paradoxically, it refers to an exaggerated, wow-am-I-pleased-with-myself smirk.

In polite society, it's called a "cheese-eating grin."
