Gather hay in June

"Gather hay in June is ????? a silver spoon, gather hay in July ????"
This was an old farmers quotation, which I don't quite remember. Any help please?

Around here (Devon) and I think also elsewhere in the UK, it's bees, not hay:

A swarm of bees in May is worth a load of hay,
A swarm of bees in June is worth a silver spoon,
A swarm of bees in July isn't worth a fly
