: : Can anyone give any insight into the phrase "angel fires", especially as pertaining to lighthouses or beacons?

: The use of "angel fires" to mean lighthouses may not be well known, or I probably would have heard it used more often. The only example I've seen so far refers to the lighthouses on the Bay of Fundy, an unusual and dangerous place for sailors. It's easy to believe that the role of lighthouses in preventing shipwrecks could earn them the name "angel fires," lights provided by our guardian angels. But I know nothing except that this is one use of the word.

: The other uses are completely irrelevant.

Thanks for the info, SS! I was wondering where you got the Bay of Fundy example?
