: : : When I was growing up, my family used to say the phrase "I haven't had so much fun since the hogs ate my little brother". Has anyone else heard this phrase or was my family just weird?

: : There are 333 hits for "had so much fun since the hogs ate" - some different versions are "haven't/ain't had so much fun since hogs ate/ate up [my] little sister/grandma/the schoolteacher/little brother". Of course, this doesn't prove that your family isn't weird, they just aren't alone in using the saying. Pamela

: No, your family isn't weird. Or not weirder than any other family:

: since the hogs et (ate) grandma (or little brother). Also meaning a long time. From Whistlin' Dixie: A Dictionary of Southern Expressions by Robert Hendrickson (Pocket Books, New York, 1993).

PS: Hogs will eat people if they get a chance. When I was young in the mountains, I was cautioned not to fall into the pig pen. And I didn't.
