: I'm wondering if anyone can shed light on the term stroppy & it's history, I first heard it in college in 1983 but was recently watching an old Monty Python sketch where Mike Palin used it, but I had never heard it used before '83. Any help/

My colleague's Collins Concise Dictionary says it's a 20th c. changed and shortened version of 'obstreperous.'
