Cooking up a storm

any interesting folklore behind this phrase? what is it's origin?

I don't think so. It's along the same lines as "cleaning up a storm," etc.

By the way, the grandmother of a friend of a friend was the subject of a cookbook by that name: Cookin' Up a Storm: The Life & Recipes of Annie Johnson by Jane Lee Rankin, Eugene Callender
