"every woman's first husband"

: I remember reading a phrase in a published article about President George Bush, Sr. The article likened him to "every woman's first husband". I chuckled at the phrase at the time, but now and again it has retrned to my memory and I wondered what the writer might have had in mind. Any guesses? Thank you.
