Loose Lips Might Sink Ships

I'm trying to do some research on "Loose Lips Might Sink Ships" I was told that my Mother Betty Lee McCannon had won a scholarship for the slogan. She graduated from East High School in Denver Colorado around 1945. Does any one have information about this. I remember her saying something about winning a scholarship but I don't remember the whole story, and she has passed away.
