What is the meaning of silver screen?

In the early years of the movie industry, the projection screens used in movie houses actually had silver content, and were sometimes called silver lenticular screens. These screens were eventually replaced by screens with newer materials and better reflection properties. But their association with motion pictures remained engraved in the language as referring to motion pictures. See:
