: What is the origin of the phrase "itch your nose, kiss a fool"?

There's a ton of superstitions having to do with bodily parts, many concerned with itching. Itchy noses are just one itching member, but give rise to plenty of superstitious nonsense.
.............
If your nose itches, it is a sign of a present.

If your nose itches, some one will be provoked with you.

If your nose itches, it is a sign that

You'll be mad,
See a stranger,
Kiss a fool,
Or be in danger.

If your nose itches, it is a sign you will be kissed, cussed, or
vexed.

If the nose itches, some say you will receive a letter; others declare it is a sign your lover is thinking of you.
.......

I got these at:

I couldn't begin to guess at the origin of any of these superstitions.
