The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

It is unique in that is uses every letter of the alphabet.

What was this phrase/sentence used for and who wrote it?

Please help.

It's a typing "exercise." It seems to me I saw the origin somewhere. If I find it again, I'll post it.
