: : I have found in your website the meaning of the phrase "top of the morning to you". But I also want to know what is the proper reply when an Irishman greets you "top of the morning to you"? Do you know any website which provides this king of service? Thank you very much!

: "Ane the rest of the day to you" is one traditional response.

If someone addresses you with 'the top of the morning to you' immediately suspect an imposter. It is one of those phrases popular in the Anglo-Saxon imagination as being typically 'Irish' (along with 'begorrah' and many another).

Although it is a translation from the Irish, in my experience it is not often used.
