: A more typical expression would be either, "May lightning strike me if I'm lyin!" or "May God strike me dead if I lie!" Your friend was probably not asking you to hit him if he was lying. How would you know? But God knows, and he can either bring lightning down on you, or strike you down in some other way. SS
