I'm going mental

Hi,
Having sent a manuscript to a friend, I received the answer "...I am mental for the next fwe weeks, but look forward to reading it."

Could anybody please tell me what the first part ("I am mental") means?

It is short for: I am mentally disturbed, mentally ill, have mental health issues. I have so much on my mind, I'll be slightly crazy for the next five weeks.
