Kick on the shins, doggone my shins (american slang)

: the exression 'kick on the shins' is common in football and other sports but I guess 'doggone my shins' its more like american slang, probably from baseball or american football but that is a wild shot, any ideas of meaning and origin on the second one?

I'm in the U.S. I've never heard "doggone my shins." But I'm not into sports.
