: -We don't go to strip club or play poker. Music is our *hang*.

: I would like to know the origin of the word's usage!

I couldn't find "hang" (as in, enthusiasm or pastime) in any of my youth slang dictionaries. It's probably too new.

I am wondering if it evolved from "hang up" (Beat Culture: fixed pattern of behavior. Or Hippie Counterculture: inhibition) or from "hang" (1950s: to relax). From "Flappers 2 Rappers: American Youth Slang" by Tom Dalzell (Merriam-Webster Inc., Springfield, Md., 1996).
