Old and Bold
The thread below which referred to spinning out of control reminded me of a phrase about pilots. "It is said that there are old pilots and bold pilots; but there are no old bold pilots!"
There is some truth to this thought, and those of us who have been lucky enough to be pilots, and have scared themselves just a few times in the air, understand the truth of this expression. And that reminds me of a quote from Little Richard: "When you get older, you get bolder."
I've got a feeling that the expression arose in the First World War - could have applied to either side. Average life expectency for the air corps was 20 minutes or so flying time? Crazy waste of resources.
