What is "shot silk"

What is "shot silk" as in "Some [paints] change colour according to the angle of light - like shot silk, only more dramatic." (From Telegraph Connected, apparently a British site.)

Shot Silk:
Silk woven with one color in the warp, and another in the weft. Produces a color-change effect in changing light conditions.
