: Last night, it was Friday night, we were at the pub and we were solving the problems of the world - as you do. We were having a heated debate about Australia's involvement in OP's wars.
: We were discussing how when asked to help out, Australia pretty much always 'chips in', and does so in a big way, but when we asked for help (over the East Timor issue) we were snubbed. So the discussion continued along the lines of why we should assist countries who won't help us... etc. etc.
: As you can imagine, things got a bit touchy.
: Anyway, I digress... Why 'Chip in'. Is this a gambling related term?
Yes. From poker (and other games) to participate by putting money (represented by a chip) into the pot.
