: Does anyone know what "Trip the light fantastic" means? Please help my husband and I settle a bet. There's 2 weeks worth of cooking meals riding on it.

It's from the lyrics to "Sidewalks of New York." It means, I believe, to dance the night away. Literally, I can't parse the phrase, so don't hold me responsible for the two weeks cooking.
